- Pakmen Plus (Grade 5/6 & 7/8)
- GTA Premier League (Grade 5/6 & 7/8)
Spikes is a great program that introduces kids in Grades 1-6 to volleyball. The program is suited for children eager to try a new sport in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Spikes provide kids with a way to master the foundations of volleyball and is the ideal start to their volleyball journey. Children learn the basics of volleyball through fun games, drills, and lessons. They also work on their sportsmanship, mentality, teamwork, and co-operation. The program lasts between 8-10 weeks and everyone participates equally. Each weekly session runs 1 hour in length and is taught Pakmen coaches who know how to teach the basics while making sessions high energy and fun!
The Parents & Players – Learn to Play Program is an excellent opportunity for parents and their children to spend quality time together while being active! You’ll be participating in physical literacy activities, volleyball skill development, and learning how to relate sports skills to life lessons. Parents learn with their kids and no longer be the bystander. The Ontario Volleyball Association funded program aims to provide parents and children with a unique, inspirational, and compelling introduction to the sport of volleyball.
Pakmen’s Development League is designed for players who are beginners with basic proficiency. This league allows players to master the fundamentals in a competitive setting. Players in this league will learn the fundamentals of volleyball through a mix of instruction, drills, and competition. There are four divisions: Grades 3-4; 5-6; 7-8; 9-12. Players in leagues 3-4 and 5-6 are expected to have completed numerous Spikes sessions and have received their Silver Certificate Medal. The 7-8 and 9-12 league is an introductory league for high schoolers with some experience playing volleyball. Each weekly session includes instruction and drills where players learn and practice serving, passing, and hitting, as well as learning how to play defence within a team system. Players will emerge better players and teammates, as well as gain skills fundamental to life.
The next step up from the Development League is the Champions League. The Champions League is open to all intermediate level players and is divided into two divisions: Grades 7-8; 9-12. Players should already have had exposure to volleyball; they must be able to pass the ball to a target, as well as serve over the net consistently. This program focuses on teaching the skills and techniques of volleyball while providing players with maximum ‘touches’ and longer rallies. This is the next step in any player’s development, allowing them to transition into more competitive and intense play. Each weekly session is one and a half hours in length and includes 45 minutes of instruction and drills, and 45 minutes of 6 on 6 games. In addition, each participant will receive Pakmen Game Jersey. The league will conclude with a round-robin tournament on the final day.
Pakmen Plus is a volleyball training program intended for players who are either part of their school team or demonstrate good volleyball skills. This is an advanced program, taught by Pakmen’s rep coaches. Players will get to play alongside and compete against peers of similar interest and ability, allowing them to rapidly improve and develop. The Grades 5-6 division is 1hours long, whilst the Grade 7-8 and 9-12 division are 2 hours long. Skills and instruction will consist of passing, serving, hitting and defensive skill improvement. Players will be taught by some of the most renowned coaches and emerge a better player in all aspects of the game. You will improve not only your game but your thinking and communication, enabling you to emerge a better teammate and a more dangerous opponent.
The GTA Premier League is the largest competitive girls volleyball league in Ontario. The league was formed in 2005, designed to give talented girls a chance to play competitive volleyball. There are 6 divisions: Grades 5-6; 7-8; 8; 9; 10; 11-12. All players are taught by NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) certified coaches on a weekly basis. Each two-hour weekly session includes passing, serving, hitting, and a focus on defensive skills. The remainder of each session will consist of competitive gameplay. The 28 week season includes two sets of playoffs and championships. This allows players to get a feel of playing in a high-pressure environment, as well as allowing them to experience what competitive volleyball is like. Official Pakmen Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to the top 3 teams and prizes will be given to the remaining teams. All players participate equally and will play alongside peers of similar ability. They will emerge better and smarter players, as well as have the first-hand experience in playing in a competitive environment.
